This is sensible reasoning, and I can only say that I disagree with one
element: the "root" user isn't really a normal user (an observation backed
up by the fact that their home directory isn't /home/root).  Due to this,
many admins want root to be more private by default.  I agree that /home/*
should be 755 to promote sharing, etc, but no one should be using root for
anything but system administration duties.

Whatever the case, I just wanted to be sure to provide this patch from
Ubuntu, on the chance this seemed like a good default to Debian as well.
