Package: resolvconf
Version: 1.43
Severity: critical

This is from my unstable VM. I did not explicitly install resolvconf, perhaps apt followed a 'recommends' or something. Essentially all network operations after this stop working (hence 'Severity: critical') as resolv.conf had been replaced by a broken one:

$ cat /etc/resolv.conf
# Dynamic resolv.conf(5) file for glibc resolver(3) generated by resolvconf(8)
# DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE BY HAND -- YOUR CHANGES WILL BE OVERWRITTEN

If resolvconf cannot create a correct resolv.conf then it should leave well alone.

It should also not replace an existing one without asking, given that it is likely to be installed as a dependency rather than by explicit decision.
