Hello, I have experienced this problem more than once in the past, but only today caught the problem in a way that is worth reporting:
On an Etch machine, but with MySQL from backports, I get: # aptitude update && aptitude upgrade ... lots of Ign:, Get: and Hit: lines clipped... Reading package lists... Done Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree... Done ... Preparing to replace mysql-common 5.0.51a-19~bpo40+1 (using .../mysql-common_5.0.51a-23~bpo40+1_all.deb) ... Unpacking replacement mysql-common ... Preparing to replace mysql-server 5.0.51a-19~bpo40+1 (using .../mysql-server_5.0.51a-23~bpo40+1_all.deb) ... Stopping MySQL database server: mysqld. Unpacking replacement mysql-server ... Setting up mysql-common (5.0.51a-23~bpo40+1) ... Setting up mysql-server (5.0.51a-23~bpo40+1) ... # Ie, there is no "Starting MySQL database server: mysqld.", and 'ps' shows that MySQL isn't running. Saying '/etc/init.d/mysql start' works like a charm, however. Kind regards, --Toni++ -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble?
