Package cups provides pfa postscript fonts in /usr/lib/cups/fonts which are used by texttops filter. Courier font from this package seems to be URW NimbusMono version 1.05. This fonts do not contain cyrillic glyphs, so it is impossible to print cyrillic text/plain files with cups in the default configuration. However, Debian lenny distribution already contains URW fonts version 1.06, which contain cyrillic glyphs in the package t1-cyrillic. Replacing /usr/share/cups/fonts/Courier with slightly edited pfa version /usr/share/fonts/X11/Type1/n022003d.pfb (converted by pfb2pfa program from texlive-font-utils package) allows to print cyrillic texts. It seems that users of Latin-1 languages shouldn't be affected, because these fonts contain all Latin-1 glyphs.
