/etc/init.d/ntop should have status option as well.

This is the output of ntop --help

Usage: /etc/init.d/ntop {start|stop|restart|force-reload|reload}

As can be seen there is no status option :(

AFAIK/remember Debian Policy also recommends status option for servers
starting from /etc/init.d/
