I can verify that this bug is still present in Debian Lenny with latest
updates. I am running a custom 2.6.28 kernel and using a customized
xorg.conf. Removing the xorg.conf and letting Xorg autodetect the
settings did not help at all. I have not tested the default 2.6.26 kernel.
However, as suggested in a previous comment, setting AccelMethod to
"XAA" fixes the issue:
