I can also reproduce the hang by clicking the visual effects checkbox while audio is paused (it happens at the first click, going from disabled to enabled, unlike the segmentation fault). After it hung, I stopped it with Ctrl-C in gdb and generated another stack trace for the hang (attached).
I assumed it's the same bug as the crash, but the stack trace looks somewhat
different. Should I file another bug for the hang?
