I can confirm this bug and have extra information.
I have 2 systems, both Vaio laptops, one with Xubuntu 8.04 and one with
Xubuntu 8.10.
Both systems are up to date and use the latest kernels and packages for
the distribution. Both setups are the same.
I can access a share on our netapp server from 8.04, but with 8.10 it
crashes once you do an ls -la in the directory one level down.
I found one other interesting thing related to this.
When I enter the top of the share with 8.04 I get permissions like:
drwxrwxrwx 3 root root 0 2007-01-25 13:04 .
drwxr-xr-x 43 user user 4096 2009-01-19 17:04 ..
drwxrwxrwx 17 root root 36864 2009-01-19 16:10 My Documents
When I do it with 8.10 the permissions are:
drwxrwxrwx 3 root root 0 2009-01-17 16:07 .
drwxr-xr-x 43 user user 4096 2009-01-19 13:06 ..
dr-xr-xr-x 17 root root 36864 2009-01-19 16:09 My Documents
It looks like the new version of mount.cifs is not able to share RW !.
And this causes things to crash when you enter that dir.
Antoin.
