Package: bind9 Version: 1:9.5.0.dfsg.P2-5.1 I had configured configured DLV ".", using an expired zone (for which the server was also authoritative). The only indicator in the log file were tons of messages like this:
Jan 16 19:19:21 deneb named[17614]: empty name resolving 'C.ROOT-SERVERS.NET/A/IN': 192.31.80.30#53 At the very least, "empty name" should say "unknown error".
