Package: aptitude
Version: 0.5.0-1
Severity: wishlist

Proposal: aptitude is nice but its dependency list is getting longer
and longer.

I see an opportunity to break it down into several packages.

Take me for instance, who never uses the GUI and only uses the command
line.

So we see we can break aptitude into aptitude / aptitude-cli, or
aptitude-full/aptitude ... aptitude-non-gui or whatever.

Then there is this xapian stuff. All I know is that it runs this
crontab every week building these big files. And maybe it helps during
aptitude search or something, but perhaps there should be a way for
people to opt out.

Anyway, the new "aptitude" package would be a meta package, pulling in
all components. And picky people could zap it and just install the
parts they want.

Otherwise hauling around so many tin cans behind the wedding limousine
is bound to get snagged...
