NM uses wpasupplicant for controlling the wireless interface, even for WEP and
not-encrypted wireless networks (to avoid special case code).

My guess is, that this is a driver issue (you can check the syslog if you have
firmware restart or similar suspect messages).

Nevertheless I'm reassigning this bug to wpasupplicant, to let its maintainers
decide if this might actually be a bug in wpasupplicant or the kernel.
