This could be a libdvdread3 problem. Some recent DVDs like "The Dark Knight" and "Wall-E" have a new copy protection. A mix of bad sectors and dvd authoring bugs. The bad sectors can be fast-skipped with a cd/dvd cloning tool but the rest seems to break several ripping tools. I created an iso image and extracted the vob-files from it. I can play the dvd, the iso and the vob-files with mplayer and vlc without any problems. But if I start lsdvd it consumes all my memory. $ lsdvd -a /.../THE_DARK_KNIGHT.ISO *** libdvdread: CHECK_VALUE failed in ifo_read.c:1890 *** *** for pgci_ut->nr_of_lus < 100 *** $ ps aux USER PID %CPU %MEM VSZ RSS TTY STAT START TIME COMMAND phobie 4803 34.4 90.6 1936352 1881212 pts/3 D+ 21:53 0:05 lsdvd -a /.../THE_DARK_KNIGHT.ISO ghb (HandBrakeGui) and dvdrip (uses lsdvd) have the same memory usage problem. --- System information. --- Architecture: i386 Kernel: Linux 2.6.27-10.slh.1-sidux-686 Debian Release: 5.0 --- Package information. --- Depends (Version) | Installed ============================-+-============= libc6 (>= 2.3.6-6) | 2.8+20080809-1 libdvdread3 (>= 0.9.6) | 0.9.7-11
