If you don't already have a Flash plugin installed, whenever Firefox renders a page containing an embedded Flash object, firefox displays a tan-colored banner across the top of the window, which says "Additional plugins are required to display all the media on this page" and has a button labeled "Install Missing Plugins...". Clicking the button brings up a window that provides "Macromedia Flash Player 7.0" as the only option to install. I'd prefer that Debian software wasn't quite so persistent about berating users to install closed-source software. To my knowledge, there is no viable open-source Flash player, but that doesn't mean that users should be pushed to install a closed-source player. In fact, I think the difficulty of developing and maintaining an open-source Flash player that tracks a standard controlled by a closed-source vendor suggests that perhaps we should not be encouraging use of the format at all. Please consider making the Debian version of Firefox both: (1) not encourage users to install closed-source plugins, and (2) not put up that annoying banner for people who don't want to install a Flash plugin.
