So you have experience with libtool? Upstream's build system is a pain to update, because TeXLive is a compilation, and it is put together from a couple of up-upstream sources. Each uses their own hacks, and making changes is hard, in particular when you don't have much knowledge of internals of the respective tools (libtool in this case).
