I responded:

A later upload, 2.8.4-4, ended up in the release version of sarge, so in
sarge, etch and sid, nautilus now prefers OOo for opening sxc files.

Second problem:

This I reported as
        http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=302563
which was determined to be a Gtk+ issue and was marked as a duplicate of
        http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=302087
which is fixed in upstream Gtk+ 2.6.8, which is now in sid (but not in etch
yet). I've verified that I indeed can't reproduce the problem on an up to
date sid system.
