Package: postgresql
Version: 8.3.5-1
Severity: wishlist

I installed 8.3 on lenny and discovered it is listening on 5433. I
believe 5432 is the standard. This may have something to do with the
fact that other versions of postgres were previously installed, though
I believe I deleted them before installing 8.3. Regardless, a purge
and reinstall later, 8.3 is now listening at 8432.

Anyway, there really should be some documentation of the whys and
wherefores of ports handling. There is a blog entry along these lines,
though I haven't investigated whether the information is accurate -
http://zbowling.com/blog/2008/11/13/debians-postgres-packages/

Something like this would be most useful.
                                                     Regards, Faheem.
