Hi I probably faced same problem this month - Exim refused to accept mail from some Microsoft SMTP server with "TLS error on connection from (XXX) [XXX] (gnutls_handshake): A TLS packet with unexpected length was received.". Removing some (well most of them) active certificates from ca-certificates, make the Exim accept the connection. I hope cleaner fix can be found for this issue.
