It's also a temporary problem due to dpkg and binutils/gcc currently being
out of sync.  The toolchain is expected to be fixed so that
i486-linux-gnu-gcc is the correct name.

This is still probably a bug in zlib; packages that call gcc in this manner
usually do so because they're invoking ./configure in such a way that
autoconf thinks that the package is being cross-compiled.
