Tong,
You only have the 'open-vm-tools' package installed, which does not
include X11-specific features. Try again after installing
'open-vm-toolbox' package and making sure the vmware-user application is
running in your X11 session; does this fix the problem?
As for the mounting problem, what happens if you try mounting hgfs using
the regular mount binary instead of calling vmware-hgfsmounter directly?
Try something like "mount -t vmhgfs .host:/ /mnt/hgfs"; does that work?
If not, can you confirm that the 'vmhgfs' kernel module is located
somewhere in your kernel tree (in /lib/modules/`uname -r`) and that
'modprobe vmhgfs' finds and loads the module? Also, double check that
you've got the 'open-vm-source' package installed and that its kernel
modules have been built via module-assistant.
