For your case: Replace build-stamp: dh build touch $@ with build-stamp: dh build --before dh_auto_test dh build --after dh_auto_test touch $@ (from the top of my head, please check man 1 dh) But I agree that this has to be fixed in dh-make-perl one way or another ...
