Package: dmsetup-udeb Version: 2:1.01.00-4 Severity: wishlist Tags: d-i In my tests, building the binaries in the d-i udebs with -Os -fomit-frame-pointer reduced dmsetup by about 2k and the library by aout 4k. This is a small, but real size gain and would probably help the installer in a small way. If it's not too much trouble to build things twice, please do it.
BTW, the CFLAGS setting in your debian/rules seems to have no effect on the actual build. -- see shy jo
