Package: xmms Version: 1.2.10+cvs20050209-2 Severity: wishlist I just helped a friend install sarge on a laptop. He elected to install the desktop environment task. He logged into his new sarge system and got a GNOME desktop; however, xmms's output plugin was set to OSS. The result of his initial attempt to play music was a lockup, since xmms and esd battled over /dev/dsp. This didn't impress my friend very much. I agree with him. Debian should work properly when freshly installed.
Perhaps xmms should have a configuration option, selected by default, which causes it to use esd when esd is running. -- System Information: Debian Release: 3.1 APT prefers testing APT policy: (800, 'testing'), (50, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.11 Locale: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] (charmap=ISO-8859-15) Versions of packages xmms depends on: ii libc6 2.3.2.ds1-22 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libglib1.2 1.2.10-10 The GLib library of C routines ii libgtk1.2 1.2.10-17 The GIMP Toolkit set of widgets fo ii libice6 4.3.0.dfsg.1-14 Inter-Client Exchange library ii libsm6 4.3.0.dfsg.1-14 X Window System Session Management ii libssl0.9.7 0.9.7e-3 SSL shared libraries ii libx11-6 4.3.0.dfsg.1-14 X Window System protocol client li ii libxext6 4.3.0.dfsg.1-14 X Window System miscellaneous exte ii libxi6 4.3.0.dfsg.1-14 X Window System Input extension li ii xlibs 4.3.0.dfsg.1-14 X Keyboard Extension (XKB) configu Versions of packages xmms recommends: ii libasound2 1.0.9-2 ALSA library ii libaudiofile0 0.2.6-6 Open-source version of SGI's audio ii libesd-alsa0 [libesd0] 0.2.35-2.1 Enlightened Sound Daemon (ALSA) - ii libmikmod2 3.1.11-a-6 A portable sound library ii libogg0 1.1.2-1 Ogg Bitstream Library ii libvorbis0a 1.1.0-1 The Vorbis General Audio Compressi ii libvorbisfile3 1.1.0-1 The Vorbis General Audio Compressi ii unzip 5.52-3 De-archiver for .zip files ii xlibmesa-gl [libgl1] 4.3.0.dfsg.1-14 Mesa 3D graphics library [XFree86] ii zlib1g 1:1.2.2-4 compression library - runtime Versions of packages xmms is related to: ii reportbug 3.13 reports bugs in the Debian distrib pn totem-gstreamer <none> (no description available) -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
