Package: iceweasel
Followup-For: Bug #493060

Please mark this as resolved. The problem was that my fstab file for the BSD NFS
server which hosts the home directories had the mount options:

mimir:/home/storage/shared/home /home nfs defaults,rsize=8192,wsize=8192 0 0

I am guessing (since I haven't tested which one it is) the default option dev, suid, or async is the cause of the problem. I'm not sure when I ended up introducing the problem (probably at a system reinstall).

Removing the defaults and adding some sane NFS options solved the problem.
