I tried this package again this evening. Once again I had issues where eventually xterms I had open on another machine displayed garbled text. (The connection was coming over ssh.) I could close the xterm, and open a new one to that machine and it would have problems. Local windows seemed OK.
I noticed that around the time that this happened, I had this message in my logs: Nov 15 20:43:56 localhost kernel: [15045.567270] ACPI: Unable to turn cooling device [f743de00] 'on' I immediately ran "acpitool -t" which reported 47C, which is in line with what I see other times. (This is a Shuttle small form factor system, I've checked the temperature many times over the years.) It occurred to me that when this message came up, it's possible that the kernel tried to throttle the CPU or something. Again, the machine is stable running 2.6.22-4-k7, doing gigantic compiles of mythtv, gcc, etc. In the past I saw those messages running 2.6.22 kernel and using powertop saw that it was throttling the CPU when the temperature hit 50C. Since then I have turned the BIOS settings to run the fan more and I haven't seen those messages running 2.6.22 in some time. (And I've watched closely while intentionally pegging the CPU.) I realize that this bug report is probably futile but right now I can't see upgrading this machine to Lenny and I would like to, so I thought I send along the additional info.
