And you're using the binaries from the official i386 build? http://buildd.debian.org/fetch.cgi?pkg=mysql-dfsg-5.0;ver=5.0.67-1;arch=i386;stamp=1225646853 The build log shows that the FEDERATED engine is enabled and the tests in the testsuite related to FEDERATED passed without problems.
