I have the same problem :
mocp crashes (play a file but freezes or back to console) 
with the message
"FATAL_ERROR: Can't send() int to the server "
as soon as I browse a directory with music files,
or as soon as I want to play a music file if I disable tag reading.

It the same if I remove the cache before.
I use the default config file.

mocp -V :

Compiled with: OSS ALSA JACK DEBUG internet streams resample

I can't see what mocp -D gives ...

mocp -DF --server gives during a freeze :
