The pppoe package is deprecated and even in sarge is ignored by pppoeconf, which will prefer the kernel space driver. Please remove it from base in the next debootstrap upload. There is a consensus on this among me (ppp maintainer), Christian Hudon (pppoe maintainer) and Eduard Bloch (pppoe maintainer). -- ciao, Marco
