Yes, I am using sl-modem 2.9.11~20080817-1 on a currently updated Sid system. I don't have Lenny installed to test with at the moment, although I could do so if you'd like.
I don't know why some of the system/package info didn't show up in my follow up report as I'm using reportbug to provide a followup. BTW, I do have dialing sound. I found that I had to set the volume in kppp to max to hear it.
