What does "xrdb -query | grep -i emacs" print? > Check ~/.Xdefaults and/or ~/.Xresources if you get matches. the xrdb query gives me: Emacs*font: Monospace-8 it was in my .Xresources so after an `xrdb -remove Emacs*font` every things went fine.
