reassign 299041 gconf2 thanks After consideration, I've decided that debhelper will not reduce itself to messing around with temporary directories (and associated possibly security issues, etc) to isolate the junk that gconftool-2 writes to root's $HOME. This is a bug in gconftool-2; it needs to either --
a. Be fixed to not create all this stuff in root's $HOME when it's
run from a postinst script, one way or another. Maybe a new
command-line swith. Maybe not creating the junk in the first place.
b. Offer some other way that debhelper can register gconf schemas
without needing to worry about all this.
Given the amount of nasty code debhelper currently inserts into postinst
and postrm scripts to work around gconf's behavior, I actually favour 2.
I think that a register-gconf-schema wrapper, which can take care of all
athe messy details and that postinst scripts can just call, is the best
solution.
