Hi,
I wrote a watch file when looking at updating the package for Ubuntu,
please find it attached.
This is the list of changes I did:
libvisual-plugins (0.4.0.dfsg.1-2ubuntu3) intrepid; urgency=low
* Drop autom4te.cache/ from debian/patches/90_autoreconf.patch.
* Build-dep on x11proto-xf86vidmode-dev explicitely for
extensions/xf86vmode.h.
* Build-dep on mesa-common-dev explicitely for GL/glx.h. Note that
libglu1-mesa-dev is needed for plugins/actor/actor_lv_gltest.c, but isn't
checked in configure.ac.
* Drop obsolete and useless xutils and x-dev build-deps.
* Add watch file.
* Bump up standards-version to 3.8.0.
* Add ${misc:Depends} as recommended in debhelper >= 4.

libvisual-plugins (0.4.0.dfsg.1-2ubuntu1) intrepid; urgency=low
* Drop libjack0.100.0-dev bdep as even if it's detected correctly by the
upstream configure.ac, the list of input plugins to build is reset later
in this file. Incidentally, this allows promoting libvisual-plugins to
main in Ubuntu without promoting jack.
* Drop libesd0-dev bdep for the same reason.
