Hi, I am not sure about exact nature of original bug in this report, however A B's description seems to match this bug:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=497795 Two of my systems were also affected (notably multicore PCs with SMP PREEMPT kernel, while single-core PC were fine). Thanks to Debian's automatic build system I was able to patch gstreamer0.10-plugins-base myself and I no longer experience unpredictable volume level changes. I have put the resulting deb files here: http://www.cs.aau.dk/~marius/gst-patched/ So at least it works for me on two different PCs.
