Hi, I've run into a similar problem: after upgrading from etch to lenny, the gui would "get stuck" after the login: I would get a blank screen with nothing moving. I was a little stressed so I didn't think much and I downloaded the CD1 ISO of the lenny full install, and reinstalled and now I don't get the graphical login at all instead I get a moving box that says: "Not Optimum Mode Recommended Mode: 1280x1024 60Hz" I've googled for the first line of text and found a few people with Samsung SyncMaster screens (I have a 710v in that series), but didn't found a solution for me. The xorg.conf file after all this is similar to the one posted by the bug opener in his first mail (before the replacement). But I didn't kept the xorg.conf file from my etch install (unlike the bug opener), so I wonder what I'll do now (I can reinstall etch temporarily just to get that file but I'll see what I get with Knoppix). I have Intel Pentium D820, Asus P5VD2-MX and graphic card Via P4M890. kernel 2.6.24-1-amd64. I'm not sure what other information is needed, please tell me how to get it.
Also since I know French I can translate approximately the other problem he had: Once he had a grey screen and the mouse wasn't moving, he used Ctrl+Alt+F1 to switch to terminal mode and then back to graphic mode with Ctrl+Alt+F7 and then all mas normal. With Etch he never had things like that. Thanks, Nethanel -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
