Package: base-config Version: 2.53.10 Severity: normal After doing a fresh sarge install a few days ago I noticed that both my syslogs and cron seemed to be running in UTC. (The time stamps in my logs were in UTC and the crontabs were being interpreted as UTC rather than local time.) Running the date command did however yeild the proper local time. After much confusion I realized the problem was syslog and cron (and likely other daemons I didn't notice) had been started before the timezone was selected in base-config. As I didn't know what services actually depended on the time zone variable I simply rebooted my system and everything went back to normal. Base-config should either reload the necessary daemons or display a message indicating that daemons may be using UTC until the system is rebooted.
