I can start gedit *once*, after which it opens a window.
Exiting gedit causes the window to be closed, and the gedit process goes away.
After that, trying to start gedit immediately exits the process for a few times.
After that, all further invocations of gedit just hang in connect:

deleting the socket, or killing dbus both makes gedit start again.
