I have tested some things and encountered following:

you can not have any other "color" setings. Any "color" settings will
trigger the download of the whole message, EVEN if it is not used.

The expected behaviour would be:

1) connect to an IMAP server
2) now you are in the index view and mutt
    is downloading the REQUIRED headers
3) if "color index yellow default "~f '[EMAIL PROTECTED]'"
is defined, the INDEX will be colored.
3) you open a message and mutt download the body for it
4) while you close the message and walk through the index,
mutt does not download ANY messages anymore

So mutt can colorize the INDEX, because the header ARE already
downloaded and do not need any additional BODY informations.

Instead it:

1) Download the WHOLE message if you connect to an IMAP server
2) Download again the WHOLE message if you walk through the index
    without viewing the message
3) Download the message again, if you tag it
4) Download a fourth time if you hit "d"
5) Download the message if you press "$" to write the changes to
    the folder

This four actins should not triger the Download of a whole message if
you have only "color index" with standards for To:, From:, Subject: or
such defined.

6) Download again if you view a message

Here, it does not only download the message BODY, but the WHOLE message
including the Headers, even if they are much bigger then the BODY.
(I know 3 Mailinglists which are adding 12-17 "Received:" headers)

So my suggestion is, to review the code for the "index" coloring since
it would help for quick IMAP connections to identify important messages
which are sometimes difficult to find, exspecialy if you are subscribed
to the hell of Mailinglists which hammering your account while you are
on your iPod or TablePC mobil over GSM

Note: My newly MUA written with perl-gtk does this already perfect, but
is fare away from being a usable MUA.

Note: Implementing functionality like mutt is not realy funny...
However, I can catch the relevant Infos from my IMAP account but
have to use "mutt" which the colorbug to download the messages.

Thanks, Greetings and nice Day/Evening
