Package: kpowersave Version: 0.7.3-2 Followup-For: Bug #487179 I'm also experiencing this problem on my Vostro 1500. When the brightness is at minimum, the first press of fn-up brings the brightness up to one step away from the maximum, and a second press raises it to full brightness. Going from maximum to minimum follows a similar pattern. Running xev and pressing fn-up once gives the following output:
KeyPress event, serial 34, synthetic NO, window 0x3200001, root 0x69, subw 0x0, time 722471, (696,350), root:(704,416), state 0x0, keycode 101 (keysym 0x0, NoSymbol), same_screen YES, XLookupString gives 0 bytes: XmbLookupString gives 0 bytes: XFilterEvent returns: False KeyRelease event, serial 34, synthetic NO, window 0x3200001, root 0x69, subw 0x0, time 722471, (696,350), root:(704,416), state 0x0, keycode 101 (keysym 0x0, NoSymbol), same_screen YES, XLookupString gives 0 bytes: XFilterEvent returns: False KeyPress event, serial 34, synthetic NO, window 0x3200001, root 0x69, subw 0x0, time 722471, (696,350), root:(704,416), state 0x0, keycode 101 (keysym 0x0, NoSymbol), same_screen YES, XLookupString gives 0 bytes: XmbLookupString gives 0 bytes: XFilterEvent returns: False KeyRelease event, serial 34, synthetic NO, window 0x3200001, root 0x69, subw 0x0, time 722471, (696,350), root:(704,416), state 0x0, keycode 101 (keysym 0x0, NoSymbol), same_screen YES, XLookupString gives 0 bytes: XFilterEvent returns: False KeyPress event, serial 34, synthetic NO, window 0x3200001, root 0x69, subw 0x0, time 722521, (696,350), root:(704,416), state 0x0, keycode 101 (keysym 0x0, NoSymbol), same_screen YES, XLookupString gives 0 bytes: XmbLookupString gives 0 bytes: XFilterEvent returns: False KeyRelease event, serial 34, synthetic NO, window 0x3200001, root 0x69, subw 0x0, time 722521, (696,350), root:(704,416), state 0x0, keycode 101 (keysym 0x0, NoSymbol), same_screen YES, XLookupString gives 0 bytes: XFilterEvent returns: False KeyPress event, serial 34, synthetic NO, window 0x3200001, root 0x69, subw 0x0, time 722600, (696,350), root:(704,416), state 0x0, keycode 101 (keysym 0x0, NoSymbol), same_screen YES, XLookupString gives 0 bytes: XmbLookupString gives 0 bytes: XFilterEvent returns: False KeyRelease event, serial 34, synthetic NO, window 0x3200001, root 0x69, subw 0x0, time 722601, (696,350), root:(704,416), state 0x0, keycode 101 (keysym 0x0, NoSymbol), same_screen YES, XLookupString gives 0 bytes: XFilterEvent returns: False It looks like somehow multiple keypress events are being generated from one button press - which is likely what is causing brightness levels to be skipped. However, the xev output is the same whether or not kpowersave is running, so would that mean that this isn't a bug with kpowersave, which is simply allowing the bug to manifest itself by responding to these events? -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (900, 'testing'), (800, 'unstable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.26-1-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages kpowersave depends on: ii hal 0.5.11-3 Hardware Abstraction Layer ii kdelibs4c2a 4:3.5.9.dfsg.1-6 core libraries and binaries for al ii libc6 2.7-13 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libdbus-1-3 1.2.1-3 simple interprocess messaging syst ii libdbus-qt-1-1c2 0.62.git.20060814-2 simple interprocess messaging syst ii libgcc1 1:4.3.1-9 GCC support library ii libhal1 0.5.11-3 Hardware Abstraction Layer - share ii libstdc++6 4.3.1-9 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii libxext6 2:1.0.4-1 X11 miscellaneous extension librar ii libxss1 1:1.1.3-1 X11 Screen Saver extension library ii libxtst6 2:1.0.3-1 X11 Testing -- Resource extension kpowersave recommends no packages. kpowersave suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
