Nope, just

And I don't see any item in rcconf(8) that says I disabled it from
doing what it is supposed to do.

Maybe I need to install "yelp".

Anyway, maybe just maybe there is a missing Depends that you have
installed but I don't because it is missing.
OK, I'll send you the results of
$ aptitude -F %p search ~i|gzip > /tmp/jidanni.installed
by private mail so you can explore what I don't have and you do.
Wait, what about that ephin...-browser setting. Should I change that?
(I'd rather not tangle with that--it should work out of the box.) I already do
