No I don't have menu-xdg. But installing menu-xdg and restarting gnome-panel fixed the problem. Please make gnome-panel depend on menu-xdg. p.s. in Applications menu I have an 'Applications' category with GnuCash in it (was category 'other' in version 2.8). The Desktop menu also have the same 'Applications' category with GnuCash, and has the 'Internet' category with Lynx in it.
