The browser exhibits really annoying behaviour of searching for a URL (in google), rather than jumping to the URL. If a URL is typed in the address bar, the browser should always jump to the address. For example, lets visit: http://history.perl.org/PerlTimeline.html Ok, we scroll down the page to: Perl 1.000 is unleashed upon the world. Rightclick the link for Perl 1.000 and "open link in new window" The file "perl-1.0.tar.gz" is of type application/x-tar and Iceape does not know how to handle this file type. Button: Cancel The address bar now contains: http://history.perl.org/src/perl-1.0.tar.gz Hightlight and cut "perl-1.0.tar.gz", so that address bar now contains: http://history.perl.org/src/ Press Enter to visit the URL. The browser jumps to: http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=http%3A%2F%2Fhistory.perl.org%2Fsrc%2F&b%2F&btnG=Google+Search&meta= It should have gone to: http://history.perl.org/src/ Repeat this three times. Each time the browser jumps to: http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=http%3A%2F%2Fhistory.perl.org%2Fsrc%2F&b%2F&btnG=Google+Search&meta= instead of to the address in the address bar. Now close down the browser, and go to a blank page. Now type the following in the address bar: http://history.perl.org/src/ Press enter, the browser goes to the address typed. This shows that the problem is with the browser and not the website: If URL addresses are pasted into the address bar, the browser submits the pasted URL to Google, instead of jumping to the address.
