I can reproduce this bug when creating a new "book" entry and entering a publisher and then switching tabs; if I enter an editor and then switch the record gets saved. The problem looks similar to #447772 (cf. also Morten's comments there). The good news: the bug is fixed upstream; I just tried the 2.4-jar from sourceforge; the bad news is that 2.4 needs more libraries before it can enter Debian (cf. #497897).
