Package: apt Version: 0.7.14+b1 Severity: normal Calling apt-get --simulate install [...] changes the file /var/lib/apt/extended_states . I tried this on several machines (amd64, i386), in "normal" conditions and inside chroots.
This can be bad if someone install package A, which causes package B to be autoinstalled and then simulates installing package B.
