If you can, please try that version and confirm that the problem is fixed for
you.  If it's not, tell us about it as soon as you can.
It seems to work fine. I disabled the bios_grub flag on the gpt partition I'd created; I assume this will force grub to fall back to using a blocklist. I then ran grub-install and it reported success. Booting had no issues either although that was never a problem.

I've now switched back to using the bios_grub partition as that seems a far superior solution.
