Aha, there's an update on this!

Patrick, the background feature is interesting. However, it doesn't
replace the ability to control the process. I usually want things to be
on the foreground, but if I see that I'm copying a wrong 2-GiB file, I'd
like to be able to abort it, which I can't.

Besides, seeing the progress in the hint line, without ETA and
throughput, is not nice -- looks like fish is an afterthought. The
progress belongs to the normal copy window.

So I would suggest to separate the bugs back.
