Hi,

At this point, nothing in the post install script for the
kernel-image uses this variable. Are you planning on modifying the
image.postinst file? If not, how would this variable be used? As it
stands, I can create an $kernel_arch variable in the post install
script, and seed it properly, but I fail to see where we are going
with this.

Hi Manoj,

I am not talking about the postinst script, but about the user-supplied post-install script, which is executed by make-kpkg in the build directory after it finished compiling the kernel. During the official kernel build we are using it to build the flavour-specific -headers package, which involves copying files from the KERN_ARCH-specific parts of the tree. I am currently working around it by examining the include/asm symlink, so availability of KERN_ARCH will save some trouble.
