Hi Daniel, My mistake.
You were right. The target directory didn't exist. I omitted the key word "echo" after running the real rdiff-backup command and before reporting rdiff-backup's return status. Upshot: I ran it twice, and the second time with a non-existant target directory. Feel free to close this bug report. Thanks!
