Oh? Splashy currently works quite well within Debian Live. Running the image generated by: $ lh_config --bootappend-live "quiet vga=791 splash" --packages "splashy" $ lh_build .. "just works" for me under Lenny, including movement in the status bar before the rootfs's init is executed. You can also see splashy in action in Webconverger.
