Actually, FSF emacs flyspell.el has neither flyspell-version function nor variable. I added a function since it is what flyspell.el formerly had, and because that is what flyspell.el maintainer had (now is unmaintained outside FSF emacs), and so is what previous flyspell.el users expect.
