There is an updated mysql handler that has been added to the svn
repository that uses /etc/mysql/debian.cnf. Unfortunately, this only
works for sqldump because mysqlhotcopy doesn't have such an option (so
your patch, while appreciated, wouldn't work for both cases, if you
can find a way to make it work with mysqlhotcopy that would be really
useful information).

so, the new system is kind of haphazard, from the new example.mysql:

## authentication ##

# three authentication methods:
# 1. setting the user, so that /home/user/.my.cnf is used.
# 2. specifying the dbuser and dbpassword,
# which generates a temporary .my.cnf in /root/.my.cnf
# 3. specify which config file to use with configfile
# (this option does not work with hotcopy)

I am making a new package with this, and a number of other updates,
that will be uploaded soon.
