Package: lintian Version: 1.24.2 Severity: wishlist Some packages need devices available to function. In the past, these packages depended on makedev and made the devices in their maintainer scripts. However, modern packages also need to support udev instead, by adding udev rules for their devices (or having those rules included in udev) and adding udev as an alternative to their makedev dependency. Any package depending solely on makedev without a udev alternative has a bug; such a package probably doesn't support udev, and in any case makes it impossible to have a system using udev without makedev installed. Few such packages still exist. To weed out the last such packages, and prevent new ones, please add a lintian check for packages which depend on makedev without a udev alternative.
